Homemade Deodorant

Posted by

Greetings,

Here is a recipe for a natural deodorant that works and you probably have most of the ingredients already in your home.

  • 1/4 cup corn starch (organic preferred) or use 1/4 cup Arrowroot powder
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 3 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp grated beeswax
  • 5 drops tea tree oil
  • 5 drops of some other essential oil (i.e. lavender or maybe a citrus scent, both have antibacterial properties)

Begin by melting coconut oil and beeswax together over a double boiler.

If you don't have a double boiler, create one: Use a stainless steel pot, add about 1-2 inches of water and find a big enough heat proof bowl to sit on top without touching the water surface. As you heat the water, the steam will gently melt the beeswax and coconut oil. Keep stirring until melted.

Add the remaining ingredients.

Stir it all together. At this point, you’ll have a runny paste or slurry.

Work quickly: Pour your deodorant slurry into your empty deodorant stick, if you have one or have a small glass container with a screw on lid ready.  Tiny canning jars work great for that.

There you have it! A coconut-oil-based deodorant that won’t melt at room temperature.

One batch should last about two months.

Alternative: The beeswax is not a necessity, however, during the hot summer months, the deodorant may become liquid and you may want to store it in the refrigerator. You may need to experiment with the amount of baking soda and Arrowroot powder to make a nice paste if you omit the beeswax.

The essential oils are optional too, however, they provide additional anti- bacterial properties and a nice scent.

(Just baking soda and coconut oil works too, if you don't have access to the other ingredients. just mix until you have a nice paste)

No toxic chemicals or Aluminum and it works.

Not only is it better for your health, but knowing how to make it could be a blessing.

In Venezuela for example, common household items are currently hard to get and on the black market items cost 2-3 times as much. A lot of people are having to barter for items they need.

At least if you stock up on the above items you could be smelling fresh for a long time.

Smile.

P.S.: Coconut oil stores for a long time. Keep cool. You can cook with it( eggs, stir fry, meat). It's delicious and a healthy fat, you can also use it for making lotion or body butter ( more on that maybe at a later time)

Have a blessed Day
